#TheGoodStuff Christmas Town...Who Cares?
Last Saturday night was the Chickasha Lighted Christmas Parade and again this year the streets were lined with smiling families and the floats were festive and fun. The Festival of Light is off to an incredible start in its first two weeks and the addition of new lights on the Big Tree and heated tents in North Pole Village are getting rave reviews. Attendance for the first two weeks at the Festival is up over 10,000 people compared to last year. There’s no doubt that our Community has transformed itself into Christmas Town, but who cares?
Plenty of people care and it’s easy to see. John and Patti Rogstad have been making Christmas displays for the FOL for over 30 years and they make new ones every year. Our new entry way signs that welcome our visitors to Christmas Town are new this year and look fantastic thanks to them. I have witnessed their passion for our town firsthand. I often see John driving around the FOL checking to make sure all the lights are working because they care!
Cassie Poole and Cheryl Critchfield tag teamed the Downtown Christmas Parade. Cassie has done it the past few years and helped Cheryl this year as Cheryl now oversees all the Downtown events. Cassie volunteers with Altrusa and decorated the trees in the tents at the FOL while also volunteering her social media skills there. The FOL Facebook page has doubled its reach this year compared to last year, no wonder the attendance is up. As Cheryl organized over 50 parade entries this past Saturday, she was also directing “Scrooge” for the Chickasha Community Theater. This week she is organizing carolers for the Rotary Christmas party and then again having them stroll along Chickasha avenue the next two weekends singing everyone’s favorite Christmas Carols. She also spearheaded the organizing of getting all the popular red bows and Christmas displays all over town. There is no doubt they both care!
It takes hundreds of volunteers to transform our Community into Christmas Town. Civic Clubs, church groups, LSI work grant program, Oh18, Here 2 Help, local businesses, Ralphie’s House, the Parks and Public Works departments with the City, our local Police and Fire departments, the Sheriff’s department, the list goes on and on and I apologize to who I have left off., but it is so obvious they all care!
Chickasha has been a special place for many decades. Oh sure, there will always be a Scrooge or a Grinch complaining on social media, but just look around you at all the people that care. One of these days we are going to have a Hallmark movie filmed here and instead of having to fabricate a script, they will just tell the story of how much our Community cares. When so many people all give of their time and their talents, it shows everyone what we are really about here in Chickasha and that’s #TheGoodStuff!
