Utilizing Video Marketing in a Digital World
Utilizing Video Marketing in a Digital World
May The Force Be With You
Welcome to 2024. It’s much like ’22 and ’23, just add more TikTok and Instagram reels. If you’re anything like I am, you might frikkin’ hate the dance trends, political word-vomiting videos, and the creepy targeted ads that make you realize that our Google overlords are always listening causing you to inevitably lose countless hours watching YouTube videos proving (once and for all) the existence of the illuminati. I feel you, bruh. These are tough times.
But imagine with me for a moment. What if this annoying social media idol that’s causing our children and peers to lose their ever-loving minds could maybe… just maybe… be used for the good? What if you could harness its energy (think Yoda v Dooku) and become a social media force (lolz) to be reckoned with? Gee, what a great question! But is it possible?
Now at this moment, the skeptical reader may think, “Eh, Reagan, who are you to talk? You only have like a few thousand followers over all your combined pages.” Touché, skeptic. My response to this is simple: I spend all my time helping other people create social media content. BUT if we’re talking numbers all combined, the social media videos we create for our clients have been viewed millions (probably close to gazillions) of times across the various platforms. But even then, skeptic, it’s not all about views and follows. It’s about turning views to clicks to new customers. And that’s something that many of our clients have experienced. AWKWARD. MOVING ON.
Why Video?
Obviously we live in a media oriented culture. Pull up your phone, BOOM, video. A gaggle of geese - kid says “Look at all those chickens.” BOOM, you send to all your friends. We are constantly bombarded with visual media. The one thing I love about video and filmmaking is that it combines so many (if not all) the arts. Music, photography, lighting, sound design, cinematography, storytelling, and so much more. Moving picture resonates with people on a real level. That’s why we’ve seen such a shift from photography ruling platforms like Instagram, to now videography being the one skill “to rule them all” (insert your best Gandalf impersonation).
We also live in a time where anyone with an iPhone (not Android… get a life) can be a videographer and video editor. I mean obviously you won’t become an overnight Christopher Nolan or Reagan Elkins (putting our names together for the Google search), but you’re on your way. Now… what to create?
Story Over Product
Enter Hart Trailer. I pick on my friends at Hart all the time, but our collaboration is a prime example of the importance of storytelling. Hart Trailer hand makes high quality horse trailers that are built to last. I mean you could haul Seabiscuit in one of those bad boys and pull without hesitation. If I as their filmmaker just showed up with a camera and filmed how shiny and pretty their trailers are, I would be doing them a disservice. There’s plenty of shiny trailers with different logos going down the road. But what makes Hart different? What makes them stand out from the rest?
The magic happens when you find the story. There are countless stories of Hart Trailers being involved in accidents where the horses inside walked away, which is unheard of. Because Hart hands build these trailers taking the time and care needed, so many animals (loved by their owners) have survived when they may not have in a trailer from another company. They’re safe and built to last. There’s the story!
So what’s your story? What makes your boutique, restaurant, hotel, agency, construction company, ice cream parlor (omg I’m so hungry right now) stand out from the rest? What drives you? Why do you do what you do? Tell the world! You’ll be surprised how much your story will drive sales.
Do It With Excellence
BUT WAIT… At this moment you’re prolly like, “I got this. Let’s go make some videos!” I love the energy, but let me give you a brief caveat. If you are unable to tell a compelling story or can’t quite find what your story is, I wholeheartedly encourage you to find someone who can help you. *Cough” me *cough.* Jk… but for real. In 2021 I spoke to a crowd of business owners (all owning multi-million dollar businesses) on the importance of telling their stories WITH EXCELLENCE. If your posts look unprofessional (i.e. like crap), then YOU will look unprofessional. Everything you post reflects you and your brand.
There are SO many elements to consider when filming and editing: Composition, lighting, audio, pacing, story structure, color, music, etc. Don’t just make content in order to make content. Make intentional content. And that, my friends, is what Intellego Media specializes in. I’m all about businesses creating their own content, but for the love of everything, please do it with excellence. Learn what you can about the craft. Tell compelling stories. I believe in you! And if it’s too much to handle, holler at me.
Overall, this is the 2024 world we live in—a constant bombardment of digital media. You and your business have a choice. You can either let the nonsensical dance trends and political gobbledygook rule the day, or you can contribute your good and meaningful stories to the world. Use the power of social media for good.
Peace.
Reagan
