#TheGoodStuff What is Kaizen?
Have you ever heard of Kaizen? It is a Japanese term meaning change for the better or continuous improvement. It is a Japanese business philosophy that focuses on the process of continuously improving operations. Whether it’s in business, your health, or your personal life it is the dedication of continuous improvement. Sounds pretty simple, but there are many steps to Kaizen.
So why should we care about Kaizen in Chickasha Oklahoma? If you google this term, you will see all the steps necessary to be dedicated to continuous improvement: Let Go of Assumptions, Be Proactive, Accept No Excuses, Say No to the Status Quo, Seek Out Problems, Empower Everyone, Look Beyond the Obvious, Focus on Solutions, No Blame, and finally Never Stop Improving.
As you drive around our Community, it’s obvious that we are all working to improve our Town. Homes are being built, new businesses are opening, and there is so much more to do. Our City is working to improve Water, Roads, and Safety! But even though we are seeing improvements everywhere, we can’t stop. We must practice the Japanese term of Kaizen.
There are plenty more roads to be fixed, water lines to be repaired, more police officers to be hired. We need more homes built and more jobs available for our citizens. Our Downtown is revitalizing, but it’s not even close to being finished. We have a new Downtown Park to build. We need to pass two different TIF projects to help fund some of this improvement, but we can’t stop there.
This week begins the Christmas in July activities. The Parade of Stars and Handlebars, Fireworks in the Park, Restaurant Bingo, movies at the Leg Lamp, the Christmas Cool Down Block Party and appearances from Summer Cycle Santa. Lots of fun activities, most of them free and fun for the entire family. Our challenge is to continuously improve and add to these activities every year.
When visitors come to town they almost always remark on the improvements they see. I’m appreciative of their perspective, but I know we aren’t’ finished. We have so much more to do! To see continuous improvement, we all must work together. As long as we are dedicated to Kaizen, we will have a lot more of #TheGoodStuff for everyone to see!
