#TheGoodStuff: Twisters Week
This weekend is the official opening of the long awaited movie “Twisters” which was filmed all over Oklahoma including Chickasha. The expectation is that it will be one of the summer blockbuster movies that people from all over the world go and see. From the rumors I’ve heard, the scene that was filmed here was a very important scene for the movie.
The area around 17th and Minnesota avenue was made to look like a tornado had just hit it. Because of two different labor strikes, the Film Set here in Chickasha was kept set up for an extended amount of time, much longer than anyone anticipated. For all those that live in that area or drive through there regularly, I’m sure it seemed like forever. So let’s hope that this movie does well at the box office and in typical Hollywood style, maybe they will film another one.
Chickasha became certified “Film Friendly” by the Oklahoma Film and Music Office back in 2022 and we have a framed certificate to prove it. For our Community to really embrace the Film Industry though, it’s important to have a reputation of being film friendly and not just a certificate. I believe we earned that reputation last year. Twisters was filmed in multiple locations all over central Oklahoma and some places handled it better than others. Chickasha’s cooperation and patience during filming was recognized by the production and I have high hopes that we will see more from the Insustry!
So what’s next for the movie business and Chickasha? A Christmas movie? A series about the Leg Lamp? A TV show set in rural Oklahoma? Yes to all of the above, the only question is when? As a state, Oklahoma continues to grow in relevance for the film industry. The more our state takes proactive steps to welcome movies and tv shows, the more opportunities we will have.
Summer is the perfect time to go to grab a coke and a popcorn and enjoy the air conditioning while watching nonstop action on the big screen. Starting this weekend, you will be able to do exactly that! Our Community played a small role in a major Hollywood Blockbuster, let’s enjoy every moment of all #TheGoodStuff!
